English for further study

​​NZ Certificate in English Language (NZCEL)

The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) is an NZQA qualification that lasts a lifetime.  There are seven levels from beginner to advanced.  These programmes can be used for further study, for work, or for general English development, aiming to extend your ability in all areas of English communication, speaking, listening, reading and writing; prepare you for further ESOL English or mainstream study; and extend your ability, confidence and comfort in a new country.

English plus volunteer work

This course combines part-time English language study with part-time volunteer work in the community. An upper-intermediate level of English is required for this course, as you will be interacting with people in New Zealand businesses and community organisations.  

We can arrange volunteering positions in the Christchurch community in the following areas: 

  • Caring for the elderly
  • Helping in schools (a police certificate from the student’s home country is required for placements working with children)
  • Office work
  • Retail 
  • Conservation work 
  • Tourism

Note that this programme is only available for international students holding a student visa.
