Our Health Centre at the City campus offers a range of services including nurse consultations, GP (doctor) consultations and counselling.
All our services are confidential.
Our Health Centre Te Whāre Hauora offers a great range of services including nurses, a general practitioner (GP) and counsellors – as a student you can access 3 free counselling sessions per year. All of our services are confidential.

The GP and counselling services are available Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday; whilst we have a drop in service for the nurse.
Our services are discounted. We take Community Services Card and we offer ACC appointments.
You can book a session by either phoning us or coming into the Health Centre reception.
At the Health Centre we follow the New Zealand Health Information Privacy Code. All Health Centre staff, visiting staff and trainees are required to sign a confidentiality agreement. Please see Privacy and Confidentiality at Ara Health Centre for more information. We are also a member of the Christchurch PHO.
If you’re a New Zealand resident, you can enrol at the Ara Health Centre to receive cheaper doctor visits and reduced costs for prescription medicine. You’ll need to visit the Health Centre to complete and sign an enrolment form.
Community Services Card
You may be eligible to apply for a Community Services Card. This allows you to get general practitioner (GP) services at discounted rates. You can find out more information and how to apply for a card by contacting the Community Services Card Unit, Freephone 0800 999 999, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Staff are welcome to make an appointment to see the doctor on a casual basis, however students do have priority for appointments so occasionally, we may have to cancel and allocate your appointment to a student. We would then refer you to your own GP or another medical centre i.e. Moorhouse.

Entry requirements
You will need to register to use a service at the Health Centre. Bring in your Student ID card, course receipt or Staff ID card on your first visit.
Students can use all services. Staff can use GP and nursing services.
